Dennis D. Yerk

Dennis D. Yerk, 73 of Reynolds, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of August 17, 2026.

Dennis was born in Lafayette, Indiana, on September 17, 1952, to Ivan and Maxine (Gibson) Yerk. His parents brought him home to Reynolds, Indiana, and Dennis would call it home for the next 73 years.

Dennis had a mechanical mind, which he put to good use farming and working as a machinist. If that was not enough to keep him occupied, he turned his attention to the open road, where he spent many years as a truck driver. In his spare time, Dennis could usually be found tending his garden, turning wrenches, or painting cars.

Dennis was a loving husband, stepfather, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Mary Yerk; his stepchildren, Danny Sipkema and Christy Bailey; and his grandchildren, Alex Brier, Abby Brier, Cheyenne Sipkema, and Cassie Sipkema. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Maxine Yerk; his son, Shane Yerk; his sister, Tina Yerk; and his nieces, Kimmy and Stelina.

A memorial service in remembrance of Dennis D. Yerk will be held on September 12, 2026, at Guernsey Church of the Brethren, 2015 E. 325 N., Monticello, IN 47960. The Yerk family welcomes the public to pay their respects from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A memorial service will begin at 1:05 p.m., with Pastor Zachary Turnpaugh officiating. All are welcome.

Dennis will be laid to rest at a later date in Brookston Cemetery, Brookston, IN.

As the Yerk family continues to grieve the loss of Dennis, they are also facing the heartbreaking reality that all of their belongings were destroyed in the fire that took Dennis's life. In lieu of flowers or keepsakes, please consider making a donation to the family. Envelopes will be available at the memorial service.
